Workers must never stand between the winching vehicle and the load being winched
- No worker shall be positioned in an area of potential injury should the cable or other components break under tension
- Use hand over hand motion - the cable should never be allowed to slide through worker's hand even while wearing gloves
- Always wear leather gloves when handling cable to reduce the consequences of wickers protruding from the cable
