Label and Placard Guidelines
  1. Any dangerous goods requiring an emergency response assistance plan (ERAP) needs:

    • placards
    • UN number
    Column 7 of the Dangerous Goods List will show if a shipment requires an ERAP
  1. Liquids or gases in large containers need:

    • placards
    • UN number
    or if the container is put in a closed trailer, the trailer must also show the placards and UN number.
  1. A truck carrying less than 500kg (1100lb) of dangerous goods does not need placards or a UN number (unless Guideline 1 or 2 applies)
  1. A truck carrying more than 500kg of one class of dangerous goods needs:

    • placards
  1. Labels and placards must be displayed "square on a point." That is, resting on a corner rather than on a side.
