Small Containers
Small means of containment are containers with a water capacity of 450L or less.
  1. It is the shippers responsibility to select the correct container for dangerous goods.
  1. They may be:
    1. drums,
    2. jerricans,
    3. boxes,
    4. pails,
    5. bags,
    6. barrels,
    7. cylinders or
    8. intermediate bulk containers.
  1. A person must not handle, offer for transport or transport dangerous goods included in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9 in a small means of containment, unless it is a UN standardized means of containment selected and used.
  1. One label must be displayed on a small means of containment for the primary class and one for each subsidiary class of a dangerous good.
  1. If a small means of containment is placed inside another, and the outer container is not opened during loading, transport or unloading, then the label is required to be displayed only on the outer small means of containment.
  1. If the shipment includes dangerous goods in Class 7, Radioactive Materials, then two labels are required on the small means of containment.
